Joe Mcnally

Wow!  I just spent the week in a seminar with the legendary Joe Mcnally.  He was in town to teach a course on location lighting.  Needless to say I was all ears and have come away with many new techniques that I look forward to implementing in 2009.  stella and I have also this week enjoyed upgrading our equipment for the new year.  Stay tuned as post many more blogs as we continue experimenting with light.  Here are some photographs from exercises during the week.  all lighting and model direction for these shots by me.

Dan & Grace

Today we headed to Stanley Park with Dan & Grace. We had a lot of fun dodging the rain, but were able to achieve the look we were chasing. It is so easy with couples like Dan & Grace. You guys are so much fun to hang out with and make our job very easy. It was hard to pick a photo from so many for our blog. But this one is one of my favourites. See you soon...

Barry Greenfield

On Saturday I was pleased to be able to shoot a good friend of mine in concert. Canadian singer / songwriter Barry Greenfield. Barry has had many hits over the years and is currently working on his latest CD in Nashville. Check out his web site at www.barrygreenfield.com

Flash and Weddings

One of the biggest challenges when shooting a wedding is how to use flash effectively. We have many techniques. Here we see Stella shooting with her Canon Speedlight fitted with a Gary Fong Lightsphere. The Lightsphere has an amazing tendency to distribute light evenly ensuring a well balanced exposure. Note the dome in Stella's hand (above right) . It is used to cap the flash in the absence of a low ceiling. Just one of our tools of the trade.

Wes & Amrita

Well, as promised it was a wonderful day full of surprises. Not only did Wes & Amrita look stunning on their big day they also treated us to a game of bowling. Here we see Wes advicing Amrita, although I believe it was Amrita who was getting the strikes. Never a dull moment with these guys that's for sure. We were thrilled to be a part of their day. The Macaroni Grill was a great choice of venue and ensured some wonderful photo opportunities. Congratulations Guys! See you soon...

Trizie and Dave

Despite the poor weather, Trizie and Dave shone through. We had an amazing day, a beautiful couple (ok - Dave you were just handsome) meant for some amazing shots. After a ceremony at Saints Peter and Paul it was off to downtown for an awesome reception at Steamworks. We can't wait for you to see your photos next week :o)

Stella

Okay, this one's a little different. We were scouting Queen Elizabeth Park for some different angles.  It was hot and there was this fountain!!! ...Well, one thing led to another and the next thing I know is that Stella is jumping for joy. I did tell you before that we love our job, well here's the proof.  And in September as well. Oh, by the way, before you ask... No, this is not Photoshopped.  She really did jump that high!

Jaime & Fintan

New Year's Eve 2008, a great day for a wedding. We really enjoyed our Sunday afternoon with you, and the beers were a perfect end. You guys were naturals.  We know where to go if we ever need models :o) Thanks for a great time. This New Year's Eve will be extra special for us.

Jordan & Nancy

We love our job, we love our couples but it is always extra special to be able to photograph the weddings of our close friends. Congratulations Jordan & Nancy we look forward to many more special days with you guys. See you soon. :o)

Wes & Amrita

Wes and Amrita were a lot of fun as we ventured to Jericho for their engagement photos. We had a lot of fun, these guys are for anything. Wes was featured on CBC recently as he scaled a downtown office building to propose to Amrita. I'm sure the wedding will be just as exciting.

Chelsea & Chris

Last weekend saw us out in the wonderful surroundings of Abbotsford. This time to document the day of Chelsea and Chris. We had such a wonderful time, I know Stella was particularly taken by Norah! :o) This summer is proving to be a particularly rewarding experience with so many wonderful couples, beautiful brides and amazing families. We really love our work!

Trizie & Dave

Another beautiful day at Van Deusen Gardens. This time Trizie & Dave honored us with their presence. A wonderful summer evening with a wonderful couple. See you in September for the wedding. We can't wait.

Stephanie & J.C.

Congratulations to Stephanie and J.C. Not only for their wedding, but for surviving one of the hottest days in the year. It had to have been 35 degrees at Whonnock Lake in British Columbia. The sunshine made for some wonderful photos. Here are Stephanie and J.C. on the peer. Congrats again you guys and thanks for having us along for the ride.

Nathan & Miranda

Wow! on Saturday we were thrilled to photograph Nathan & Miranda's wedding. A marathon session (12+ hours) but worth every minute. They were so much fun, everyone was up to something and we didn't know which way to point our cameras. Thanks guys, to you and you families and guests for putting on such a wonderful event.

Matt

We were lucky to have the opportunity to photograph Matt in the studio last night. I have to say that he is awesome at creating a believable character. Here we were trying for the era of Oliver Twist. I love the look, to me it creates the mood and kicks my imagination into high gear. Thanks Matt.

Ibdazzle

Today I ventured into somewhat of an unknown territory for me. Product photography!!! Mary has an awesome jewelry shop in Chinatown and I was commissioned to take photos of both her and her products. Here is a portrait of Mary in her shop. I will be sure to share the link to her web site when it is up and running so you can see for yourself all her wonderful items.

Laura & Cory

Today we were pleased to help out our very good friends James and Gaetanne at Then Comes Marriage Photography. James was under the weather so Steve was pleased to step in and act as the second shooter for Gaetanne. All in all, a perfect day. Thanks to Laura and Cory for being so sporting!

Mothers Day

Kathleen stopped by today to have her portrait taken for her Mom! Kathleen was recently selected to the degree program at UBC in film, as well as having a short documentary scheduled for airing on Shaw in the very near future.

Junior Symphony

Today we were pleased to have Zak and his Mom stop by our studio to have his portrait taken. Zak is currently in his first season with the Vancouver Junior Symphony. Way to go Zak!

Nathan & Miranda

It rained, but that didn't stop us. Nathan and Miranda were amazing sports as we trudged around Van Deusen Gardens battling the rain as well as the hoards of people there for the plant show. We had a great afternoon. Your love for each other is infectious. See you in June :o)

Easter Vigil 2008

Saturday was a busy day for us. We were thrilled to photograph Dorothy and Yin's wedding (photo to follow), and then right after were in attendance at St Augustine's Church, Vancouver to photograph the Easter Vigil. Here we see Father John Brioux performing an adult baptism.

Dorothy & Yin

Friday saw us at Dorothy and Yin's wedding rehearsal, with the big day to follow on Saturday. Everyone was so welcoming, we felt so at home. People were literally dancing in the aisle. Meeting couples like Dorothy and Yin is the reason we love our job so much.

The following week we were back at Jericho with Stephanie & J.C. Stephanie gets the award for braving the cold with no sweater and coat. Lucky J.C brought his. You guys were great sports. We can't wait to photograph you in the summer.

Chelsea & Chris

We were so lucky to meet Chelsea and Chris and even more so that they chose us to photograph their wedding. Here they are at Jericho Beach. We are really looking forward to our trip to Abbotsford.

Jose & Rinna

Today we were off to Van-Deusen Gardens where we had the pleasure of photographing Jose and Rinna. Beautiful couple + Beautiful location = great shot.
